Our Services
The heart of what we do at Listening Ear is offer a place for people to be listened to, in confidence and without judgement. We also recognise the importance of reducing isolation and enabling community, so we provide opportunities for people to meet in small, safe groups through our drop-in and bereavement support with a view to increasing confidence and building trust in relationships.
Our work in this area has three strands:
One to one Listening Ear sessions
We offer a ‘drop-in’ on a Wednesday morning where you can come along and have a one-to-one initial conversation with our Listening Ear team lead about any issue which is concerning you.
Regular one-to-one sessions also take place at other times in the week, including a Monday evening. Having the opportunity to have someone alongside to really listen can help us process and understand difficult feelings, feel less alone, gain perspective and insight and enable us to find ways to manage the circumstances we are in. It can bring hope. During our one-to one support we will.
Listen to you and respect you and your story
Give you space and time to explore your thoughts and feelings
Keep what you tell us in confidence*
Help you think through your situation and explore any options
Help you think about other sources of support, help or information (if needed and you want this)
Help you think about any next steps as you move on from Listening ear
Weekly group drop-in
We run a drop-in at Hilton Church every Thursday afternoon. Initially funded by the Highland Council’s Happy Healthy Hilton Action plan to provide community support during the cost of living crisis. Our group offers a friendly place to meet, engage in art and other activities and discuss anything on your mind. Team members are also available for one-to-one support each week. Tea/coffee and snacks are provided. Do come along; we would love to meet you!
Bereavement support
Twice a year the Bereavement Journey Course is run through the church at CCC led by our Listening Ear Team lead and a team of volunteers. This course normally runs in the Spring and the Autumn. The Bereavement Journey Course is a series of films and discussion groups that gently guide people bereaved at any time through the most common aspects of grief and bereavement, enabling them to process the implications for themselves and discern next steps. More information about the Bereavement Journey Course can be found here. The Bereavement Journey.
In addition to offering the bereavement Journey Course we can also provide one-to-one support through our listening Ear service with members of the team who have experience in working with grief and loss.
